White Cloud man arrested after allegedly crashing into snowbank, armed with handgun

TRAVERSE CITY — A 26-year-old White Cloud man was arrested after Michigan State Police troopers found him asleep and initially unresponsive in a running vehicle that allegedly crashed into a snowbank on Boardman Avenue near State Street.

According to a Dec. 29 MSP news release, troopers from the MSP Traverse City Post said they allegedly saw the vehicle while returning to the post after completing the booking process for an individual arrested for operating while intoxicated on Dec. 14.

MSP said as troopers approached the vehicle, they found the driver asleep and initially unresponsive.

MSP said troopers reportedly entered the vehicle and saw a handgun inside the driver’s pocket, the release said. MSP said troopers removed the handgun and attempted to wake the driver.

After the driver awoke, MSP said he allegedly became assaultive toward law enforcement. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail, the release said.

The driver was identified as Jacob Miller.

The release said Miller was arraigned Dec. 19 in the 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession by felon, operating while intoxicated, assaulting or resisting, obstructing a police officer and felony firearm.

MSP reported that Miller was given a $25,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 8. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

MSP said were assisted by the Traverse City Police Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.
