TRAVERSE CITY – Downtown Traverse City was busy as shoppers made final stops before Christmas. For many, the appeal isn’t just the gifts—it’s the experience.
“If I had to buy a lot on Christmas Eve, I could see it being very stressful. But coming out on Christmas Eve for a couple of things, not much else to do today, low stress, everybody’s in a good mood, and downtown looks beautiful,” said Kent Wood, a local shopper.
Shoppers also enjoy walking out with items in hand, avoiding delivery worries. “It might even be wrapped for you by the time you go home,” Kent added.
Mary David, who works downtown, said local shops give people a sense of community and variety. “Even if you don’t buy anything, seeing something cool or a store makes it easier to have conversations. Prices are better a lot of the time, and it’s more authentic downtown.”
For last-minute gift hunters, she advised, “Don’t look for something specific. Have the person in mind while you shop, and you’ll find what you need.”
Downtown Traverse City continues to be a festive destination for holiday shoppers.
