GAYLORD — If you’re heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Otsego County, there’s a free and safe way to get around.
The Otsego County Bus System is offering free rides on New Year’s Eve to help keep impaired drivers off the road.
The free service runs from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m., with rides available through the Otsego County Bus Station.
Anyone needing a ride in Otsego County can call the bus system directly to schedule transportation.
Transit officials said the goal is to give residents a safe alternative and reduce the risk of drunk driving during holiday celebrations.
Looking ahead, the Otsego County Bus System is also expanding service hours starting January 3rd.
They will begin service beginning January 3, 2026 for their first Saturday ride running from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Weekday service will also be extended, with buses now operating Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., adding two extra hours compared to the previous 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.
Officials encourage riders to take advantage of the expanded hours and the free New Year’s Eve service to travel safely.
Other Northern Michigan bus systems are also offering free rides on New Year’s Eve including Benzie County’s Night Owl Ride, Traverse City’s Beta Bus and Manistee County’s Dial-A- Ride.
