TRAVERSE CITY — For the sixth consecutive year, the Bay Area Transit Authority (BATA) distributed $44,400 in cash to individuals in need during its annual holiday giveaway.
This year’s amount is the largest ever received by BATA for this purpose, thanks to 110 envelopes from an anonymous donor.
The funds were distributed across BATA’s network to assist community members who expressed gratitude for the support. Recipients shared how the money would help them provide Christmas gifts, stay warm during winter and put food on the table during the holiday season.
BATA staff felt privileged to participate in this charitable act, bringing holiday cheer to those who rely on their services daily. Sandy, a driver for BATA, shared a personal story from her experience during the distribution.
“My first holiday giveaway of the day was to a rider definitely in need of Christmas cheer and he was very, very grateful. I love that we get to do this!”
Chris Davis, the Interim Executive Director of BATA, said the organization’s appreciation was great for being able to help again this year.
“We are honored to be chosen again this year and everyone at BATA is thankful to be able to help spread holiday magic and cheer while providing an essential service to the community,” Davis said.
