GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — Grand Traverse County commissioners are preparing to approve the distribution of $500,000 in marijuana funds to 13 local organizations, following a recommendation from the Funding Request Workgroup.
The funds, derived from marijuana revenue, were allocated after a thorough review process that included scoring applications based on criteria from the marijuana funds spending plan. Out of 81 applications received, 26 scored 90 points or higher, totaling $1,878,509.59 in requested funds.
The Funding Request Workgroup, which met on November 7th and December 1st, narrowed the list of high-scoring applications to 13 organizations that will receive varying amounts of funding. These organizations include Conservation Resource Alliance, Friends of Grand Traverse Conservation District, and Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region, among others.
Projects funded range from environmental restoration efforts, such as Restoring Mitchell Creek by Conservation Resource Alliance, to community development initiatives like Habitat Housing at Carriage Commons by Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region.
The Board of Commissioners authorized the Board Chair to execute the funding agreements and release the funds once agreements are fully executed. This decision was made during their regular session on December 17, 2025.
The distribution of marijuana funds is expected to support various community projects and initiatives across Grand Traverse County, enhancing local infrastructure and services.
