LANSING — A Wellston man has been charged with failing to report or pay sales tax collected through his propane company, according to the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
According to a Dec. 8 news release from the AG’s office, Mark Fischer, 61, was arraigned Dec. 5 before Magistrate Laura Millmore of the 54A District Court in Lansing.
He is accused of not reporting or paying sales tax collected by Fischer LPG Inc. from 2019 to 2023. Fischer faces five counts of failure to file a tax return, each a five-year felony.
Fischer LPG Inc. has also been charged with five counts of failure to file a tax return. The case was referred to the Attorney General’s office by the Michigan Department of Treasury.
“Michiganders pay sales tax to support our schools and our local governments and attempts to withhold that money undermine the public services we all rely on,” Attorney General Dana Nessel said. “My office will continue to work with the Michigan Department of Treasury to ensure those who violate our tax laws are held accountable.”
Fischer and the company are scheduled for a probable cause conference Dec. 12 before Judge Anthony Flores in the 54A District Court.
