Newaygo County man wins $1 million in Michigan Lottery Super Raffle

LANSING — A Newaygo County man won a $1 million Michigan Lottery Super Raffle prize with a ticket he bought at a retailer long known for selling big winners.

Per a Dec. 3 news release, the 29-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, won after his Super Raffle number, 049686, was selected in the Nov. 19 drawing. He purchased the winning ticket at Party World on Alpine Avenue Northwest in Comstock Park.

“I’d heard about the Michigan Lottery’s Super Raffle game and was pretty excited about it because of the odds,” the player said. He said he told friends to buy tickets because the game offered the best odds ever to win $6 million and other prizes.

He said he stopped at Party World because it advertises itself as the luckiest store in Michigan. On the day of the drawing, he said his wife called him in tears. “I didn’t believe her, so she sent me a picture of the ticket, and I checked it myself,” he said. “When I saw I really did win $1 million, my heart started pounding.”

The man said he plans to invest most of his winnings to build generational wealth. He opted to receive a lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments.

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the winner and noted Party World’s reputation. “I also want to congratulate Party World, a Comstock Park retailer known as a lottery lucky spot, for selling the winning ticket and for continuing their 10+ year streak of selling huge lottery prizes,” she said.

Party World has sold significant winning tickets before, including a $57 million Mega Millions ticket in 2008. Since then, the store has sold 14 prizes of $10,000 or more, including four prizes of at least $100,000.
