Three ski hills opening this week amid heavy snowfall

Crystal & Treetops are set to open this week

With Northern Michigan seeing heavy snowfall accumulation across the area, resorts and ski hills are capitalizing with early openings.

Snow accumulation across the region in the last 12-24 hours:

  • Hart - 15″
  • Six miles North of Ludington - 8″
  • Empire - 8″
  • Cedarville - 7″
  • St. Ignace - 7″
  • Lake Ann - 6″
  • Suttons Bay - 5″
  • Onekama - 5″

Reports of 12-15″ in Good Hart have been reported to 9&20 News’ weather team, but the Harbor Springs area appears to have gotten the most in the immediate area.

Treetops Resort announced that its first chair of the season will be opening this Saturday, Dec. 6.

Treetops will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (and then closing Mon-Fri for additional snowmaking).

Total runs will be determined later in the week as Treetops staff assess the production of the snowmakers’ efforts.

Crystal Mountain also announced this week that slopes will open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 5, Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7.

Crystal Mountain lifts will be closed Monday, Dec. 8, through Thursday, Dec. 11 while snowmaking continues.

Shanty Creek Resort announced Schuss Mountain will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The season pass desk will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to purchase or pick up a pass before hitting the slopes.
