TRAVERSE CITY — A city filled with questions as Traverse City wonders what led to the death of Lawrence Boyd IV, a parking services employee.
According to the Attorney Prosecutors office, Lawrence Boyd IV was shot and killed inside of the Larry C. Hardy Parking Deck.
Chief Assistant prosecutor Kyle Attwood says that the 17 year old from Leelanau County faces multiple charges as an adult, including first degree murder, attempted murder of an officer, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Police had discovered the 17 year old an an 18 year old were connected to Boyd’s murder through security camera footage.
Interim City Manager Benjamin Marentette says that Boyd was working inside the Hardy Parking Deck when the shooting happened.
So far, Marentette says that there are not plans for updates to security in the city, but there could be.
Marentette told 9&10 “It always presents the responsibility to take a look at what we’ve got right now. And if there’s improvements that could be made, to make people safer. And so that’s certainly going to be part of the work that we do as we continue to learn more and more. Right now, we’re all still very much in a state of shock about what happened and working to support people emotionally. And we’re going to get to those operational analyzes, here shortly. ”
Boyd’s murder happened at about 9:30 pm on Saturday night, a few hours before the teens had a shoot out with Traverse City Police.
That shooting resulted in an officer being shot in the pant leg, but uninjured.
Attwood was unable to confirm whether the pair had any prior criminal history.
The 17 year old was arrested outside of a Super 8 Motel, while the 18 year old was arrested on the North Western Michigan Campus
The teenagers are set to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 pm
