How do you spend your free time?

Most of my free time is spent with my 7 children, and enjoying various outdoor activities with them, including biking, skiing, and various water sports. I am also an active volunteer at numerous local organizations and events (Safeharbor, Cherry Festival, Tart, School events...)

What are your favorite things about the area (geography)?

The clean freshwater of Grand Traverse Bay, the twin peninsulas, rolling hills and vineyards, the Boardman River, and four distinct seasons. There’s always a nearby trail, beach, or overlook that reminds me why this landscape is special. To add the fact that the citizens of Traverse City are so deeply committed to preserving our natural resources makes us such a special place to live.

What are your favorite things about the community (people)?

As a resident, I most appreciate the welcoming small-town atmosphere where neighbors look out for each other and families can thrive. The area boasts excellent schools, family-friendly events, and safe neighborhoods, creating an environment where parents feel comfortable raising their children. We are also a community that supports our local businesses, outdoor recreation, and fosters connections among residents, which all make Traverse City an inviting place to call home.

Planning Commission, past 11 years.

What are the biggest issues facing Traverse City right now (pick 3)

Attainable housing and preservation of our neighborhoods. As our city grows and becomes more desirable, we must ensure our neighborhoods preserve the character and charm that make them so great.

Infrastructure support. As a city of just over 15k residents and only 8 sq/mi, we are tasked with managing and financially supporting infrastructure that benefits a 5-county region. The burden put on our local infrastructure is overwhelming and falls on the city taxpayers’ shoulders.

Effectively managing Homelessness in our region. Traverse City residents should not be faced with a decision of compassion versus safety.
