TRAVERSE CITY — The City of Traverse City announced updates to its ongoing Griffin, Ninth, and Twelfth Street reconstruction projects, which continue under contractor Team Elmer’s.
Work on Griffin Street between Pine and South Union Streets will enter its next phase Wednesday, Oct. 22, when contractors begin watermain construction at the Union Street intersection. The intersection will close during this phase and is expected to reopen by Nov. 14, weather permitting.
During construction, the intersection’s roadway and sidewalks will be closed, with traffic detoured south on Cass Street. Access to driveways and nearby side streets will be maintained when possible, though temporary restrictions may occur. Barricades and signage will be in place to guide motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
Ninth Street reconstruction between Union and Cass Streets is also underway, with subgrade and gravel work that began the week of Oct. 20. Concrete, curb, driveway, and sidewalk construction is scheduled to start the week of Oct. 27. That project is also expected to be completed by Nov. 14, weather permitting.
On Twelfth Street, all concrete work between Union and Cass Streets has been completed. Topsoiling began the week of Oct. 20, and paving is scheduled for the week of Oct. 27. The Twelfth Street project is anticipated to be finished by Nov. 14, weather permitting.
City officials note the construction may cause dust, noise, and other inconveniences. Questions about the projects can be directed to Zach Cole at (231) 922-4492.
The Griffin, Ninth, and Twelfth Street improvements are part of the city’s 2025 Reconstruction Project. More information is available at traversecitymi.gov.
