Cherryland Cares grants $15,000 to four Northwest Michigan nonprofits

GRAWN — Cherryland Cares awarded $15,000 in grants last quarter to four nonprofit organizations serving northwest Michigan communities.

Per an Oct. 21 news release, the Leelanau County Cancer Foundation received funding to provide non-medical financial aid to residents diagnosed with cancer.

Food Rescue, a program of Goodwill Northern Michigan, plans to use its grant to support the FoodRescueUS mobile app in Traverse City.

5Loaves2FishNMI will purchase and install an upright commercial freezer, while Acme Christian Thrift Store and Food Pantry will use funds for food purchases for its pantry.

Since the start of 2025, Cherryland Cares has awarded $45,365 in grants to regional nonprofits. Established in 2006, the program has distributed a total of $861,241.60 in grant funding to community-focused organizations.

Cherryland Cares operates under the oversight of five volunteer members of Cherryland Electric Cooperative who review applications and allocate funds. The program is funded by cooperative members who choose to round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar.
