Ferris State partners with Fremont Lions Club for free eye exams

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University’s College of Optometry is teaming up with the Fremont Lions Club this Tuesday to help kids see more clearly.

The program, called Students in Need of Eyecare, has been around since 2012 and focuses on helping kids in rural areas who might not otherwise get the care they need.

More than 60 elementary students from Fremont, Hesperia, White Cloud, Newaygo, and Grant are heading to Big Rapids for free eye exams and glasses.

Optometry students, under the guidance of their professors, are doing the exams.

If a child needs glasses, they get to pick them out at Ferris’s University Eye Center, and the glasses will be delivered to their schools.
