Kei Ju Farms owner arrested on 20 counts of animal control violations

EMMET COUNTY — The owner of Kei Ju Farms was arrested Wednesday on Animal Control Ordinance Violations.

Julie Jackson Clare, 61, was arrested on 20 counts of violating the Emmet County Animal Control Ordinance.

These charges stem from an investigation initiated after numerous complaints about the farm, specifically several reports citing violations related to barking dog ordinance on the property.

Sheriff Matt Leirstein stated, “Unfortunately, during the course of this investigation, we learned of these dogs being unlicensed and unvaccinated. It’s regrettable that Kei Ju Farms would operate in such capacity and blatantly violate these ordinances, placing these precious animals at risk. The ethical treatment and care of animals is of the utmost importance to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office. I commend my Animal Control Officer and the Deputies that investigated this complaint. Sadly, this investigation is ongoing, but it is our hope that this action will bring Kei Ju Farms into compliance.”

He adds that Clare voluntarily surrendered the dogs, who are now receiving the proper care they need.
