Jubilee House receives $15,000 from local women’s group

TRAVERSE CITY — Jubilee House has received more than $15,000 from 100+ Women Who Care Grand Traverse and Leelanau County following the group’s recent quarterly meeting at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.

Per an Oct. 9 news release, the total includes over $10,000 from group members and a $5,000 matching grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. Jubilee House, the region’s only day shelter for the unhoused, earned the most votes after presenting its mission to members.

An outreach ministry of Grace Episcopal Church, Jubilee House offers laundry facilities, showers, snacks, hygiene items, and community support to people experiencing homelessness. The organization also helps guests secure winter clothing and other basic necessities.

The Schulze Foundation, created by Best Buy founder Richard Schulze, supports community-based fundraising initiatives like 100 Women Who Care. Because the local chapter falls within 20 miles of a Best Buy store, the foundation matched the group’s donation to Jubilee House.

Jubilee House Director Hannah Wescott said the day shelter sees about 80 guests daily, though it can accommodate only around 45 at a time. She also represents Grace’s Jubilee Outreach Ministries in the Traverse City Basic Needs Coalition and the Traverse City Quick Response Team.

“The need for a supportive community space and basic human necessities continues to grow, as evidenced by the high daily traffic we see,” Wescott said. “This generous gift from 100+ Women Who Care is a huge vote of confidence for our mission and will provide essential stability.”

Project Feed the Kids also confirmed during the meeting that it will continue providing winter coats and snacks for Jubilee House guests this season.

Members of 100 WWC also heard from Northwest Michigan Supportive Housing, which is seeking funds for utilities and transportation for clients, and from the Inland Seas Education Association, which is raising money for its Campaign for the Future of Great Lakes Education.

Founded in 2011, 100+ Women Who Care Grand Traverse and Leelanau County meet quarterly to select a local nonprofit to receive a collective donation of $10,000 or more.

Members each contribute $100, and the group has donated more than $500,000 to local organizations since its founding. Membership is free and open to the public.

The group’s 2026 meetings are scheduled for Jan. 20, April 8, July 8 and Oct. 7.
