Love INC reports surge in requests for essential assistance

CADILLAC — As temperatures drop, local charities are seeing more people in need of help.

Love INC of Wexford and Osceola Counties reports a sharp rise in requests for essential assistance, now averaging about 270 requests each month, up from 60 to 70 just a few years ago.

Food remains one of the top needs, but the nonprofit also provides help with utility bills and laundry services. Staff members expect the demand to increase further as winter approaches.

“As the season gets colder, we are seeing an uptick in utility bill assistance need,” a spokesperson said. “We’ve got young families, young moms, seniors, veterans, and middle-class people living paycheck to paycheck. Need does not discriminate.”

Love INC relies heavily on volunteers and donations to continue its work. Those interested in supporting the organization can learn more about donating or volunteering here.
