100+ Women Who Care to donate $10,000 to Northern Michigan nonprofit

TRAVERSE CITY — More than 100 local women will gather Oct. 8 to make a $10,000 impact on a Northern Michigan nonprofit in just one hour.

Per an Oct. 6 news release, the Grand Traverse and Leelanau County Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club to select and award its quarterly donation.

Each meeting follows a simple format: members nominate local nonprofits, and three are randomly chosen to present. The nominating members explain why their organization deserves support, and attendees vote to determine the recipient of the entire $10,000 contribution.

While votes are counted, last quarter’s recipient, Remain in Touch, will provide an update on how its donation benefited the community.

Since forming in 2011, the local chapter has donated more than $500,000 to area nonprofits and raised awareness for dozens of causes. Members commit to giving $100 per quarter for one year, with 100% of each contribution going directly to the selected organization.

Founded in Jackson, Michigan, in 2006, 100+ Women Who Care has grown into an international movement focused on collective giving.

The Traverse City Golf and Country Club donates meeting space each quarter, and attendees do not need to be club members. Those interested in joining or learning more can attend the Oct. 8 event or email Kristin at 100wwctc@gmail.com.
