SAULT STE. MARIE — The Sault International Festival of Races returned this weekend, drawing hundreds of runners for a two-day event that highlighted the city’s signature bridge.
Saturday’s five-mile race began at Lake Superior State University and sent runners across the International Bridge before returning to campus.

More than 400 participants took part in the bridge run. On Sunday, just under 300 runners competed in a half-marathon or 5K that did not include the bridge.
Among the participants was Robin Mosher of Marion, whose late father helped build the International Bridge. Mosher, who began running in 2015 and has entered the last four festivals, said racing across the bridge held special meaning.
“I wanted to go run on the bridge that Dad built because he has been gone a long time and there are not many places where I can literally walk in his footsteps that he had a major impact on the entire world,” Mosher said. “I did the race and it was awesome.”
Mosher’s father died in a work accident downstate at age 39. She carried a picture of him during the race to honor his memory.
