TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Road Commission is warning drivers after several stop signs were recently knocked down, creating a serious safety risk.

According to a Sept. 24 news release from the commission, three stop signs were run over in southwest Grand Traverse County and seven in northwest Wexford County in recent days.
Officials urge anyone who sees someone striking or removing traffic signs not to approach the person, but instead note the vehicle description, license plate number, time and location and call 911 immediately.
Residents who spot a downed stop sign are also asked to call 911 so the Road Commission can place a temporary stop sign until repairs are made.
The commission said quick reports from the public can help prevent accidents and keep roads safe.
