GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — Cherry Capital Airport’s new Economy Lot is moving closer to reality.
The lot, which began planning in February, is not yet open to the public. Airport officials said no disruptions will be made to existing parking areas during construction.
The expansion will add more than 350 parking spaces to make access easier for travelers.
“This lot will be operated a little bit differently than our long term lot, short term lot, where this will be more of an automated lot versus you have an exit booth with people there that are managing it,” Cherry Capital Airport CEO Kevin Klein said. “This will be more of an automated lot, credit card type lot services, and then have parking and a shuttle that will take you from this parking area to the front curb.”
An opening date has not been announced, but Klein hopes construction will be complete by Thanksgiving.
