Docked out on the Discovery Pier in West Bay you’ll find Fish XTC captained by Alonzo Knowles and joined by his first mate Tucker as they provide a charter fishing experience on lake Michigan
“After school gets out in June we’re just loaded up with a lot of people from the Midwest and really all over the country,” Captain Alonzo Knowles, said. “Great opportunity to take them out for their first time fishing, catching some salmon or lake trout, steelhead. We’ve got such an amazing fishery out here between West Bay and East Bay.
“The economy in general has been pretty strong up here in our region. We’ve got a lot of people that want to be here. It’s such a beautiful area with so much to offer. And this is just one of the things that they can do.”
But there’s a reason that Alonzo and tucker get along so well.
“It’s an absolute treat, absolute treat to be able to work with my son and now we couldn’t be happier with our current situation,” Knowles said. “Now, mind you, we have our moments. We’re just really happy to be here and love doing what we do. I get to work with my son every day. My puppy dog gets to ride along with us. “
And they both helped me along on my first charter fishing trip.
“It’s just such a nice way to spend time with family and friends,” Knowles, said. “And you’ve got the added excitement of the rods going off. I mean, you go for a moment of just calm, serenity, peacefulness. It’s the moments of just sheer adrenaline. So, that’s the draw for most people.”
We were able to catch 3 fish, one Coho Salmon and two King Salmon. The largest was 14 pounds.
