DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers open their final homestand of the season Tuesday night with a chance to clinch their first division title since 2014.
The Tigers will face division rival Cleveland Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a weekend series with the Atlanta Braves.
Detroit currently holds a 6.5 game lead over Cleveland with a magic number of 7 to clinch the division.
That means any combination of Detroit wins and Cleveland losses that add up to 7 before the end of the season will give Detroit the division crown and a trip to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
However, a sweep of the three game series by Detroit would also clinch the division, since the Tigers own the tiebreaker with the Guardians.
Casey Mize is scheduled to start Tuesday for Detroit, who currently holds the second best record in the American League, behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
Following this homestand, Detroit embarks on its final road trip of the season, heading to Cleveland and Boston.
