Traverse City prepares for water service line replacement starting Sept. 11

TRAVERSE CITY — Lane flagging and intermittent closures will take place on Eighth Street next week as crews work to replace private galvanized water service lines.

According to a Sept. 10 news release, Team Elmer’s, in coordination with the City of Traverse City Water/Wastewater Maintenance Division, will begin the project Thursday, Sept. 11, and continue through Tuesday, Sept. 16, on Eighth Street between Union Street and Boardman Avenue.

Intermittent flag control will be in effect during the work, with sidewalk closures expected on the south side of the 200 block of Eighth Street. The project is expected to generate dust and noise and may cause disruptions for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Officials are asking the public to use alternate routes when possible to reduce congestion, avoid delays, and promote worker safety.

Questions can be directed to the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Division at 231-922-4923, extension 2. More information about the Water Service Line Replacement Project is available here.
