FRANKFORT — In just a few short days one of the biggest Triathlons in Michigan became the Frankfort – IRONMAN 70.3.
The IRONMAN is actually a world wide competition, with athletes competing in many different counties.
The triathlon came to Frankfort 5 years ago, and has been a massive boost to the town.
The first IRONMAN in Michigan was in Traverse city, but due to traffic issues it was moved to Frankfort.
Because of all the influx in travelers, many businesses do well not only this time of year, but year round.
Joshua Mills the Superintendent of Frankfort “They come back throughout the time throughout the year. So some of the racers will come up and train throughout the summer. But, like most people, when they come up to Northwest Michigan in the Frankfort community, they fall in love. So it’s a situation that we’re experiencing, and the feedback that we’re having is that this is a has a domino impact on our long term, tourism and economic development. And a lot of these folks end up investing in our community in certain ways.”
Registration has ended for the IRONMAN 70.3, with the triathlon starting on Sunday at 8am and ending when the last person crosses the finish line.
