Halloween event celebrates Sophia Hinkley’s spooky spirit

CADILLAC — Spooky Sophie’s Halloween Bash is just around the corner, but there’s still time to contribute to the event

The event honors Sophia Hinkley, a nine-year-old girl from Cadillac, who died from cancer in September of 2023.

Her dad, Jaime Hinkley said little Sophie loved Halloween. The event was started as a late birthday celebration, but after she died, it’s become a way to remember her.

“We’re trying to create a legacy that she was never able to create for herself. She was an avid fan of scary movies and all things spooky,” said Hinkley.

The bash will include a craft show, an instrument petting zoo, a root beer bash, live music and performers, a costume giveaway, and so much more.

“We also have haunted barns that we’ll be doing again this year. So, one, not so spooky side and one extra spooky side, plus cosplayers and the whole nine yards. But it’s all geared toward things that Sophia would have loved. She loved live music, she loved dance, she loved scary stuff. And we just want to keep that spirit alive and bring that sense of community fun here to Cadillac,” said Hinkley.

Hinkley said the event will happen from 11 am to 7 pm at the Northern District Fair Grounds on Saturday September 13th.

They are still looking for more volunteers to help build the haunted house, be scare actors as well as donations for their bake sale and live auction that will be raising money for little boy from McBain, Colter Bailey, who is battling cancer.
