Call Miss Dig before making a potentially deadly mistake

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — It’s that time of the year where everyone is planning that last summer project.

If it involves putting a shovel into the ground, you’re going to want to do your homework first.

The state advises that, before you break that shovel out, call Miss Dig at least three days in advance.

That’s because not everyone knows where a water, electric ore gas line is.

If you hit a line, it could prove to be very costly or even deadly.

“There’s all kinds of lines under the ground. There’s water lines. There’s gas lines or sewer lines for us. We have electrical lines under the ground. And hitting one of those lines is extremely dangerous. So when we’re talking about mystic, the number one thing I hope people take away is that by submitting a mystic ticket, taking the time to kind of put a pause on your project for you dig is for, if anything, for your own safety, because hitting one of those lines is extremely dangerous and can even be deadly,” said Courtney Doyle from Cherryland Electric.

Crews will come out and mark the areas near utility lines, like electric gas and water lines.

To call Miss Dig, all you need to do is dial 8-1-1.
