Local agriculture and community highlighted at Northwestern Michigan Fair

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — The Northwestern Michigan Fair is underway this week, continuing a 116-year tradition of celebrating local agriculture, youth programs and community spirit.

First held in 1908, the fair now features a mix of classic attractions and modern entertainment, including carnival rides, games and fair food favorites such as elephant ears.

“The best thing about the fair is the community,” one attendee said. “You can see the hard work that kids put in with their animals, enjoy the food and have some of the best conversations of your life. It’s an experience every year.”

In addition to livestock exhibits and family activities, the fair hosts ticketed events daily at the grandstand. The Northwestern Michigan Fair runs through Saturday.
