HAYES TOWNSHIP — Three people have been charged in connection with a 2024 home break-in that led to the theft of more than 20 firearms from a residence in Clare County, according to the Clare County Sheriff Office.
Deputies first responded to a report of a breaking and entering on March 26, 2024, at a home in the 5000 block of N. Coolidge Avenue in Hayes Township. Investigators said the suspects broke into a gun safe and stole over 20 guns and other items before fleeing.

During the investigation, deputies recovered items left behind by the suspects that were sent to a crime lab for DNA testing. Detectives conducted surveillance at the home the following night and stopped a vehicle driven by Amanda Rose Almagro, 33, of Harrison, with a male passenger from Gladwin, who has since died. Almagro told investigators they were looking for a friend, later identified as Seth Justin Riggs, 29, of Harrison.

In May 2025, DNA results linked Riggs to the crime, and he later admitted to breaking into the home with the deceased man and stealing the guns, authorities said. Riggs told detectives the firearms had mostly been sold to Shaun Michael Gulley, 40, of Harrison.
On July 9, 2025, detectives executed a search warrant at a Hayes Township residence where Gulley was staying and found a handgun and ammunition. The following day, investigators learned Gulley had hidden the stolen firearms at the Caldwell Municipal Boat Launch in Midland County.

Federal agents recovered about 20 guns, many traced to the Coolidge Avenue break-in. A subsequent search of a Midland apartment tied to Gulley uncovered additional ammunition and magazines.
Riggs, Almagro, and Gulley were arrested and charged in Clare County District Court.•
- Riggs faces charges including safe breaking, first-degree home invasion, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, multiple counts of larceny of firearms, felony firearm, and is charged as a habitual offender, fourth notice. His bond was set at $100,000/10%, and he remains in jail.
- Almagro was charged with safe breaking, second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, and malicious destruction of property over $1,000. Her bond was set at $1,000, and she has since been released.

- Gulley was charged with receiving and concealing stolen firearms and ammunition, possession of firearms and ammunition by a prohibited person, multiple felony firearm counts, and is charged as a habitual offender, second notice. His bond was set at $60,000/10%, and he has bonded out.
The investigation involved assistance from the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force, Midland City Police Department, Midland SWAT, Michigan State Police BAYANET, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
