Youth basketball training academy Hoopology returns to Traverse City West

TRAVERSE CITY — Hoopology LLC is bringing its Youth Basketball Training Academy back to Traverse City West Senior High School for a second year, offering a three-week developmental program for middle and high school athletes from July 28 through Aug. 14.

According to a July 24 news release from the academy, the program is open to boys and girls entering grades 6 through 12, runs Monday through Thursday and is designed to build skills, confidence, and basketball IQ.

Sessions are organized by age group and gender, with each group training for 90 minutes at staggered times throughout the afternoon and evening.

Daily registration is $35, while a weekly rate of $120 offers a discount for advance payment.

The academy is led by Hoopology co-founders Nandy Lukusa and Zack McGuire, both Traverse City natives with extensive coaching experience. Lukusa, a Traverse City West graduate, has coached at NCAA Division I, II and III programs and trained professional players. McGuire has nearly a decade of experience coaching at Traverse City West, Central, and Saint Francis.

“Traverse City has the talent to compete with anyone in the state,” McGuire said. “We just need to sharpen how we play the game.”

They are joined by Coach Parker Neu, a former TC West and Grace Christian University player who is serving as interim varsity girls coach at West Senior High, and Coach Ben Horner.

The program emphasizes individual player development in small group settings, with a portion of proceeds supporting the Traverse City West basketball program.
