The teams go through an intense 14-week training program, taught by veteran canine unit members.
Among other things, MSP says the teams are instrumental in detecting missing people, drugs and firearms used in crimes.
The members new to Northern Michigan include Deke with handler Trooper Brendan Gute at the Cadillac post, Kilo with his handler Trooper Austin Taylor at the Alpena post and Fenrir, a replacement for Trooper Adam Whited at the Houghton Lake post.
