TRAVERSE CITY — A commercial dump truck pulling a trailer with an excavator struck a pedestrian foot bridge Thursday morning near Traverse City State Park, sending debris onto a passenger vehicle, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.
Per a July 17 news release, deputies were dispatched at 9:54 a.m. July 17 to the crash site along U.S. 31 North, where they found the dump truck had collided with the bridge, causing a piece of debris to fall and hit a passing car. No injuries were reported.
The truck was driven by a 47-year-old Lake Ann man who was heading west when the crash occurred.
Investigators determined the excavator was improperly loaded onto the trailer, which led to the collision. The driver was cited for the incident.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is inspecting the foot bridge for any structural damage.
