Cadillac PFAS Resource Fair set for Friday

CADILLAC — Cadillac Advocates for Clean Water is hosting an informational fair later this week that will help connect people to PFAS resources.

PFAS are forever chemicals and have been a controversial issue in the Cadillac area for months after PFAS above state criteria have been discovered in private wells.

The clean water advocate group is teaming up with the Great Lakes PFAS Action Network to bring together PFAS-impacted community experts, testing lab representatives, water filtration services, as well as local, state, and U.S. politicians and agencies.

Cadillac Advocates for Clean Water co-founder, Mary Galvanek said the fair helps call attention to the pfas crisis in Cadillac but anyone in the surrounding communities is welcome to attend too.

“We have noticed that EGLE has about 300 sites around the state for PFAS contamination. And so, we know that Cadillac is not the only city that is struggling with PFAs contamination. There’s Pellston and dozens and dozens of other places as well. So we want to make sure that we are on top of these contaminants,” said Mary Galvanek.

The fair is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the farmers market, the city pavilion, and the city park across the street.
