TRAVERSE CITY — During the heat wave there are many ways to help cool down, especially when surrounded by fresh water. Local and out of state families gathered to enjoy the splash pad to beat the heat.
“I feel even if you’re from here, I feel like this is really hot weather, and just always feel really lucky living here that we have so many outdoor options. You know, the beaches, things like the splash pad,” says Erin Kowalski from Traverse City.
“You can play, mostly anything. And you can, jump on those, like, do some climbing over there and you’ll go over and those toes and like, so and like play through those.” says Cohan Hill who was out playing in the splash pad.
And his little sister was right out there with him
“I’ve been running around and I was so happy because I didn’t know how much wind there’d be and I can get this all wet so my dress could be more colorful. I was going there and there and I was and I was going on the turney thing, I couldn’t go on it for long because it was so hot.
And some families from out of town were enjoying the Traverse City splash pad.
“It’s just been great to be out. The breeze has been incredible. And the water is pretty chilly, which I really love. So it’s been very refreshing. We’ve really had a good time,” says Chicago resident Bonnie McCarthy.
There were even some perks to getting to the park at the right time.
“We got here not too long ago and our parking meter was already paid for and we got one hour and 30 minutes,” says Mason Chippewa who was out in the splash pad.
“You definitely have to weigh the pros and cons of taking your little kids out in the sunshine, in the heat, versus hanging out the air conditioning,” continues Erin Kowalski. “But it’s really nice to be here and see all the kids and families enjoying it. I feel even if you’re from here, I feel like this is really hot weather, and just always feel really lucky living here that we have so many outdoor options. You know, the beaches, things like the splash pad, like, there’s a splash pad in there too. So there’s lots of ways. Luckily, to get out so you don’t feel stuck in the house.”
But even after playing in the splash pad, there was one more stop to make for everyone.
“We’re going to get ice cream, maybe, says Elsie Hill
“Can we maybe get that that picture of a cream?” Cohan Hill asked his mom.
And Kowalski says “maybe just getting a smoothie and some french fries at the snack shack, but then it will be nap time.”
