MACKINAW CITY — The Colonial Michilimackinac Visitor’s Center has officially reopened for the 2025 season following an eight-month, $35 million renovation funded by the State of Michigan.
The overhaul, led by Mackinac State Historic Parks, modernizes one of the park’s most visited facilities and improves accessibility, efficiency, and visitor services.
“We are thrilled to open the doors on this beautifully renovated facility to the public,” said Steve Brisson, director of Mackinac State Historic Parks. “Whether it’s purchasing tickets to Colonial Michilimackinac, seeking out more information on Michilimackinac State Park, or shopping at our museum store, we know our guests will enjoy a visit here.”
Upgrades to the building include fully accessible restrooms, centralized admissions and retail counters, heating and air conditioning, energy-efficient windows and doors, and a completely redesigned museum store.
The interior now features bright, light-colored walls and ceilings, new patios on either end, and a timeline exhibit exploring the history of Michilimackinac State Park.
Renovations also improved staff offices and workspaces, maximized storage by repurposing the former theater area, and made the building suitable for year-round use.
The Visitor’s Center is now open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Colonial Michilimackinac, a reconstructed 18th-century fort and fur trading post, is open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with last admission at 6 p.m.
