River Rock Festival returns to Hersey

HERSEY — People in Hersey will be rocking it out this weekend at the River Rock Festival. This will be the 4th year of the event.

This year it’s been expanded from one day to two and includes 16 different musical acts.

River Rock Festival promoter Chris Gregerson, with Iris Entertainment, said bands from all over the state will be playing this Saturday and Sunday at the River Junction Stage, with several from Northern Michigan.

Gregerson said the event gives local bands more exposure and gets bands from out of the area to come to Northern Michigan to play.

“I want to make people want to come up this way to see bands, because we have a couple bars in Big Rapids. There’s the venue in Cadillac that is just called the Venue, but other than that, like once you get north of Grand Rapids, there’s not really a lot of places for people to play. If we can get bands to come up this way, maybe other people will see that and go, if they can get bands, why can’t we get bands to come play,” said Gregerson.

Gregerson said this is the biggest rock festival in Hersey. It coincides with Hersey Heritage Days which is also taking place this weekend. They are celebrating their 150th this year.
