FRANKFORT — Frankfort is gearing up for a weeklong Independence Day celebration, with festivities planned from Tuesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 5.
Kicking off the celebration is the annual Fourth of July Medallion Hunt, which runs July 1-4. Participants can pick up daily clues starting at 10 a.m. at the Frankfort-Elberta Area Chamber of Commerce office, 1311 Forest Ave. A $150 prize is up for grabs, with an extra clue released if the medallion remains hidden by July 4.
The Frankfort Fourth of July Carnival opens Wednesday, July 2, at Open Space Park. Carnival hours are 2 to 10 p.m. July 2-3, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 4-5. Armbands cost $25 in advance through July 1 at the Chamber office, or $30 per day at the event.
This year’s Fourth of July parade will honor two longtime community leaders as co-grand marshals: Steve Christian, former owner of Dinghy’s Restaurant and Bar and a Chamber board member since 2001, and Mike Jones, owner of Wayfarer Lodging and an active Chamber volunteer.
Both Christian and Jones have played key roles in fundraising for Frankfort’s annual fireworks show.
