Consumers Energy prepares for power outages with 200 crew members on standby

TRAVERSE CITY — With the heat we’re expecting, severe weather could come along with it and you need to be prepared for both. First check in on your loved ones especially young children and the elderly. They are at a higher risk with hot temperatures. You also don’t want to forget about your pets. If you need a cool spot to go, you should go in your basement or head to a public building like a mall or library. Consumer’s Energy is preparing with more than 200 crew members ready to head out if the power goes out.

“If you’ve got a situation where you lose power, and you’re without air conditioning, you stay in your home,” said Brian Wheeler, Consumers Energy spokesperson. “If you need to close the doors, keep the hot air outside, draw the blinds, and try to take those steps to keep your home from having to lose too much of that cool air you have inside.”

If you lose power and need resources call 211 or head to Consumer’s Energy website to check the status of your outage.
