TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse Industries and the Crooked Tree Arts Center will showcase the creative work of local artists with disabilities during a community art show on Thursday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lake Michigan Credit Union US 31 branch in Traverse City.
The exhibition marks the culmination of Art Able Connections, a collaborative art program designed to provide adaptive, hands-on instruction to GTI team members through weekly classes at the Crooked Tree Arts Center. Each session was led by a professional local artist and tailored to meet the needs of participants with disabilities.
“Being part of the clients’ creative journey has been inspiring,” said Kristi Wodek, vice president of the Crooked Tree Arts Center. “Our partnership has not only allowed us to introduce new artistic techniques and processes, but it has also opened the door for clients to explore self-expression in a powerful and personal way.”
Selected works from the classes will be on display during the art show, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists behind the work.
Grand Traverse Industries is a nonprofit organization that provides employment support and day programs for people with disabilities in Traverse City and Mancelona.
The event is free and open to the public.
