Traverse City District Library kicks off Summer Reading Club

TRAVERSE CITY — A kickoff to the Traverse Area District Library’s Summer Reading Club June 16th.

Families were invited to come out and see what resources the library has to offer.

And special guests had stations set up like Norte, the Girl Scouts and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

While it is a time for kids to get out and enjoy their break, the Traverse Area District Library says it’s important for children to keep up on their reading goals.

“It’s super important over the summer for kids because they do all that learning throughout the school year, and then they get those three months off in the summer,” says TADL Youth Services Department Head Andy Schuck. “And if they’re not reading, there’s all those gains they made during the school year. They lose and they get back to school. And it just it’s just hard for them. Those first couple months and so hard for the teachers, hard for the families.”
