TRAVERSE CITY — 3 Mile Road in Grand Traverse County is getting some big updates this years, the bad news is it will last all summer.
Detour signs are already up throughout Traverse City, with drivers asked to use Garfield Road and 4 Mile Road.
Manager Dan Watkins with the Grand Traverse County Road Commission saying the roads are completely shut down aside for a few people.
He said the construction was much needed, as the roads had become extremely bumpy.
“We’re doing that from Hammond Road all the way down to South Airport. We are adding turn lanes to that project. So when we’re done, we’re hoping for a nice smooth road surface.” Watkins adds, " We do have some issues going through there. We’re having to do what they call a Geotextile. They have kind of a swampy ground through there and that’s one of the issues why you see the roads so bumpy going through there.”
The construction began earlier this month, with it slated to end sometime in August.
