Sault Ste. Marie Boy spreads smiles one ducky at a time

SAULT STE. MARIE — A young boy from Sault Ste. Marie is brightening his community one rubber duck at a time.

Jaxn, an almost 6-year-old, came up with the idea this past Easter to hide small rubber duckies around downtown to bring smiles to strangers’ faces.

What started as a fun family activity has now grown into a community-wide movement.

With help from his mother and grandmother, Jaxn hides the duckies in creative spots throughout the city.

The project has gained such popularity that the family launched a Facebook page called “S.S.M. Duckies,” where people can share photos of duckies they’ve found.

“He’s just a loving person,” said Jaxn’s mother, Sam Chandler. “He likes to make people smile. He wants to show everybody love and that he is caring and he wants to brighten everybody’s day up.”

The family now hopes to team up with the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula to continue growing the project and spreading joy throughout the region.
