CADILLAC — With summer around the corner and spring already here, people are pulling out the grill to serve up all kinds of deliciousness.
With that, comes increased risk of fire danger.
According to the National Fire Protection Service an average of more than 10,000 fires are started from grilling activities.
The culprit can often be gas grills due to leaks and breaks. charcoal grills can quickly get out of hand.
Cherry Grove Fire Department fire chief Noah Knauf has a few things for grillers to consider before pulling out the grill.
“With charcoal grills with embers, depending on how dry it is outside, it needs to be watched. When you’re dumping your charcoal out, use some water to put it down, don’t just throw it in a grassy area and think that it’s going to go out on its own,” said Knauf.
Knauf also said to make sure you put some distance between your home or garage and the grill.
Flames can easily get out of hand and spread causing a fire.
