CADILLAC — The cherry grove fire department in Wexford County has teamed up with the Wexford-Missaukee-Manistee great start collaborative to offer a dad’s only training class and the best part, it’s free.
Lunch, raffles and parenting resources will take center stage for new dads who need more education on baby basics.
Cherry Grove Fire Department Chief Noah Knauf said he developed the program after speaking with young soon-to-be dads who expressed interest in learning parenting skills before their child was born.
After doing a bit of research Knauf quickly discovered that the majority of classes were geared toward women.
“A lot of classes out there in the community are designed for women who are about to become mothers, but dads are kind of left to fend for themselves a little bit” said Knauf. “So, talking with the ladies over at the great start collaborative, we decided to collaborate and come together to build a curriculum that can teach dads the basic needs like holding babies for the first time or changing diapers and putting car seats in.”
