CHIPPEWA COUNTY — A fatal traffic crash occurred on Drummond Island on the evening of May 26 involving a Chevy Impala that left the roadway and struck a culvert before crashing into trees.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, which took place on Warners Cove.
Preliminary investigations indicate that alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors in the accident.
The driver of the vehicle did not survive the crash, while the passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Drummond Island Fire/EMS, Central Dispatch, and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause.
