EMMET COUNTY — The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jack Douglas Maibach, 27, of Northville, Michigan, in connection with a vehicle pursuit on May 19, 2025.
According to a May 23 news release, Maibach was taken into custody on May 22, 2025, and charged with fleeing a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The charges are related to an incident where Maibach allegedly fled from deputies near Pellston, Michigan, leading to a pursuit that was terminated near the Mackinac Bridge for public safety reasons.
Sheriff Matt Leirstein thanked the Mackinaw City Police Department, St. Ignace Police Department, Michigan State Police, the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mackinac Bridge Authority for their coordination and swift response in resolving the incident.
The pursuit began when Emmet County Deputies attempted to stop Maibach for excessive speed. After the pursuit was terminated, deputies obtained the registration plate of Maibach’s vehicle, which led to his apprehension by local law enforcement in Mackinac County.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation and submitted a complaint to the Emmet County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which authorized the charges against Maibach.
Maibach faces charges and will proceed through the legal system, where he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

EMMET COUNTY — A high-speed chase involving Emmet County deputies ended in Saint Ignace on May 19, 2025, after the suspect crashed through a toll booth and drove the wrong way on I-75.
According to a May 22 news release update from the Emmet County Police Department, the pursuit began as the suspect headed northbound across the Mackinac Bridge, evading law enforcement and causing chaos by crashing through a gate arm at the toll booth.
The suspect continued northbound in the southbound lane of I-75, eventually entering Saint Ignace.
After entering Saint Ignace, the suspect’s vehicle became disabled near the entrance to the Mackinac Straits Hospital.
At this location, the suspect attempted to carjack a vehicle occupied by a woman and her child. Fortunately, the woman managed to drive away, with the suspect clinging to the outside of her vehicle until he fell off.
Law enforcement officers, including a Saint Ignace Police Officer and a Michigan State Trooper, located the suspect on foot in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn. Despite violently resisting arrest, the suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of a Mackinac County deputy and a Sault Tribal Police officer.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jack Maibach from Northville, Michigan, was lodged at the Mackinac County Jail. He faces multiple felony charges, including fleeing and eluding, carjacking, and resisting and obstructing an officer.
The incident highlights the dangers posed by high-speed pursuits and the swift response by law enforcement to apprehend the suspect.
