220th Avenue completion celebrated in Reed City Area

REED CITY — Osceola County communities celebrated the completion of the 220th Avenue corridor project in Richmond Township.

For about five years, the Richmond Township Downtown Development Authority, the City of Reed City and the Osceola County Road Commission have been working together to add improvements to 220th Avenue from U.S. 10 to Upton Avenue.

The $3.2 million project started construction at the end of August last year and Tuesday its completion was celebrated.

The project widened the road to three lanes, added a pedestrian trail and installed lighted crosswalk features.

“One of the special things about this project, and very unique, is a collaboration between, not only the DDA, but with the city of Reed city and the county, Osceola County Road Commission. So three different branches of government, have joined together to do one large project. And neither one of us separately could have done the project to this size and this scope,” said Ron Marek, President and Chair, Richmond Township DDA.

Hero banners were also added along the road to honor local members of the military.
