Experts to hold meeting in Gaylord to help people with damaged forest land from ice storm

GAYLORD — Thousands of trees were damaged or destroyed by the March ice storm, leaving many in forest land owners wondering what to do with them.

Similar to a talk held Wednesday night in Pellston, Bryce and Susan Metcalfe, co-owners of the Grayling-based, Metcalfe Forestry Co. and Burns Timber Tax Service, will offer advice on what to “salvage or not to salvage” in conjunction with the Otsego Conservation District, Thursday in Gaylord. They will discuss options for clean-up, who to contact, and a chance to network with timber industry leaders. The focus will be on working forests of 20 acres or more.

The also plan to share information on federal assistance for forest restoration, casualty loss on your tax return and future savings on your property taxes.

The free event is happening Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at the Gaylord E-Free Church on M-32.
