Cherryland Cares awards over $15K to area nonprofits

GRAWN — Cherryland Cares awarded a total of $15,365 to four northwest Michigan area nonprofit organizations last quarter.

According to an April 17 news release, the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan received funding for an AED device. Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan plans to use their funding for bags and advertising for its Brown Bag Campaign.

Remain in Touch will use its funding toward a literacy program for the children of incarcerated parents. Women’s Resource Center for the Grand Traverse Area received funding to cover 60 nights of shelter at Helen’s House.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Cherryland Cares program has awarded $15,365 in grant funding to regional nonprofits. The program began in 2006 and has since given a total of $831,241.60 in grant funding to programs that support our local community.

Cherryland Cares is a charitable fund overseen by a group of five volunteer Cherryland Electric Cooperative members who review grant applications and allocate money to non-profit organizations seeking assistance. Cherryland Cares is funded by members electing to round up their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar.
