GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — A change is coming to Grand Traverse County’s 9-1-1 calling system
County Commissioners voted unanimously on the change at their April 16th meeting. The current system has been shared with the Charlevoix Cheboygan Emmet Central Dispatch Authority since 2018.
Grand Traverse Central Dispatch says this will minimally impact other signees after backing out. They attribute the motion to a poorly supported and defective system.
“It’s not going to be free, it’s not going to be inexpensive,” Grand Traverse County Central Dispatch Deputy Director Corey LeCureux said. “But I don’t think that it will be prohibitive, taking a look at what our financial situation is right now. It hasn’t worked very well since the beginning. There have been problems across the board. Our intergovernmental partners, many of them are leaving and they have given us notice, both informal and formal. So that would be Kalkaska has given us notice. Wexford has given us notice. Antrim has given us notice. We’re still waiting for one other partner to make a decision on that.”
The timeline to change systems is one year to test out the replacement system.
