22 2 None to host first ever 5K and tribute walk at Cadillac veterans park

“Fighting the Fight Within”

CADILLAC - A Northern Michigan nonprofit that brings awareness to veteran suicide and other issues facing our nation’s heroes, is holding their first ever 5K event.

Hosted by 22 2 None, the ’Fighting the Fight Within’ 5K and two mile tribute walk will be held at the Veterans Serving Veterans Park in Cadillac.

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among veterans, averaging 22 taking their own lives every day.

22 2 None brings awareness to that, but they also get veterans connected with service they might not know about. They also offer financial assistance and a place for veterans to come together to support one another. The hope is that this event will get more people involved in the fight.

“In years past, we did a tough run in Copemish. We did that for eight years, so 3.1 miles of mud and obstacles. We’ve switched gears to this 5K cross country run to hopefully get a few more people involved and interested in what we’re doing… The venue that we have here is amazing, working with Veterans Serving Veterans. It’s a well-established park, a well-established route and we’ll have it professionally timed," said 22 2 None Board President Ray McDaniel

The event will be held Saturday, August 9, but registration starts Monday, April 21. The cost is $35 for the 5K and $22 for the tribute walk. Funds raised will go to support 22 2 None’s transitional housing project, among other things.
